The Race

Huff… huff… huff…

“Faster, faster!” The man seated in the pulled rickshaw shouted.

The puller gave a final boost of speed as he crossed the finish line – wiping the streams of sweat pouring down his neck. A clear win!

*** A century later ***

Come on, faster, faster!” shouted the boy as he kept pressing the button on his console.

His car fell just short off the finish line, as the words ‘Game Over’ played across the screen.

The photo prompt has been given by Amanda Forestwood at the Friday Fictioneers hosted by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields and the word prompt (Console) has been given for the Six Sentence Stories hosted by Denise Farley.

  1. And yet a century further on? He popped the neurotrophic pill and experienced every sensation of winning?

    1. Maybe… or like Will said, they could have races in ‘meta-rickshaws’ too.

  3. Just think of it. Only a century ago rickshaws were a means of transportation.

My apologies to all in the group for writing such a long story. I missed the bit about there being a word limit. My mistake!

    1. No worries. I struggled to meet the word count during my first few tries too 🙂

  5. People like races, then, now, and likely in the future too. Clever story.

  6. Good story. I could even see a day where the console for the rickshaw game was in the rickshaw-meta rickshaw.
