Chickened Out

Knock, knock… knock, knock… came a hurried tap, jolting her out of her snooze. Her groggy eyes swept across the porch, illuminated by lightning. The sound resumed. Constant. Relentless. Like the ticking of a clock… occasionally hastening to match the beating of her heart. She took a careful step in its direction; then the next before fear gave way to curiosity – and tapped back on the panelled wall. The pause was finally broken by a furious tapping. Frantically, she pressed and prodded trying to find what was on the other side, until a hidden door swung open…

A chicken poked its head into the room, clucking nonchalantly before losing interest and waddling away.

Tagline: An eerie stormy night leads to a new discovery.

The WEP is back… even if it’s for a month and as always it’s a delight writing.

The photo prompt has been given by Lori Wilson at the Friday Fictioneers hosted by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. I’ve also used the Six Sentence Stories (hosted by Denise Farley) prompt, Panel, but wasn’t able to link up since I exceeded the sentence limit 😅.

  1. Thanks Bernadette for writing for WEP again. It’s lovely to see so many ‘oldies’ back for our special challenge.

Hope all is well with you and yours.

Please be careful what you open your door to, LOL.

  3. This is just a curio story. How did the chicken get in there? I had to laugh as fear became a relief of joy when the chicken appeared. Any eggs?
