A Lesson at Retrieving

Like a mother duck with a trail of young ones linked together, she walked ahead.

“One, two, three… ” She sighed. There was always one child in every class; she retraced her steps looking around.

She caught her hat in time as she turned at a deep woof followed by two tiny ones.

There she was, golden hair glinting in the sun next to two retrievers, one huge while the other a fraction of it. The large dog raised her head and barked — so did her two young companions.

  3. Nicely done. I’ve searched for many a wandering child but never found one quite like this.
