Happy Accidents

“Good evening everyone, and welcome to our first class on painting landscapes digitally. I’ll start by sharing my screen and you can follow along.”

*** 40 minutes later ***

“… And we’ll add the final touches with the 2-inch sponge brush…”

“Uh, the class is almost ending. Are you going to unmute and explain what you’re doing?”

I’ve recently started trying my hand at illustrations & digital painting and have been following a tutorial based on Bob Ross’s paintings which was the inspiration behind this piece. (Of course my painting looks more like a 5 year old did it, minus the mess, and not like any of the paintings in the photo).

The photo prompt has been given by Brenda Cox at the Friday Fictioneers hosted by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields.

    Oh hilarious! That dratted mute button. Well hopefully they got a lot out of watching along. I love the idea of art classes given via online means. More people to learn a new hobby. Might be some budding art students out there desperate for guidance!

    Oh dear. That’s something I would do, forget to unmute. When my kids do a video call, I have to go through the sequence of sound, camera, action, every time 🙂

    I’ve been having bi-weekly Zoom game nights with my family. At least once per session, someone tries to speak while muted. The only sound is everybody else saying some variation of “You’re muted.”

    I used to work in a copy shop. A guy and kid came in with a painting to copy. I asked the kid if he did it. The guy was not happy.

      The ‘unmute mistake’ happens to most of us.
      I wonder why that guy wasn’t happy.

    Hehehe, what fun. Don’t you just love the presenters who never look at the chat window where people ‘yell’ unmute, unmute… video conferences are so stressfull, everyone who has to do them regularly has my sympathy. And good luck on the art class.

      Been there, done that. Attending back-to-back meetings is definitely a nightmare (but staying on mute has its advantages when you have nothing to say).

        LOL, I hear you. Many were the meetings at the beginning of the pandemic where we were witness of people yelling at their kids, making interesting phone calls or just shuffling papers on their desks. Now moderators mute as a default…
