Viruses & Vampires & Garlic… Oh My!

My neighbour told me that she saw Promila at the nearby wholesaler. Armed with curiosity (and a dire need of a new form of entertainment), I rang her doorbell.

“Oh you’re just in time, I’m almost done cooking lunch,” she said as she walked ahead. I followed her only to be hit in the face with a string of garlic; it was then that I realised that there was garlic all over the place, one even attached to the fan with an elastic band.

“What’s with all the garlic around?”

“It’s to keep the virus away.”

“What?”

“Ya, the virus was caused by a bat and garlic keeps vampires away.”

The photo prompt has been given by Dale Rogerson at the Friday Fictioneers hosted by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. The word prompt (elastic) has been given by Denise Farley at the Girlie on the Edge .

  1. In all fairness, there is some insane logic hind the garlic. Amusing. 😀

    1. It probably would have been more amusing if I wasn’t smacked in the face with a string of garlic.

  2. I see the logic chain there. And that may well be how superstitions start

I wonder how that will work for her. Thanks for the chuckle.

    1. Well, her house has certainly started smelling garlicky. Not sure if that’s a good thing though.

  7. I hope they run that by the “experts.” They’ll buy anything at this point. 😂

    1. I don’t think she asked an expert (unless you’re referring to the wholesaler of course) 😉

  9. Quite honestly, I’m willing to try just about anything. Garlic is better than nothing and it’s often on sale! HA!!

    1. Where? I’ve almost used up the string she gave me by adding it to my food.

  10. Oh! Enjoyed the connection you made from garlic to bat and virus😊🧛🏻Well done.

  11. Although I don’t think a bat caused the virus, I do wonder how effective garlic is against vampires.

  12. It could work, the smell of the house might discourage all visitors who could spread it to her!

  15. Well, certainly worth a try! Besides, if you reek of garlic, you’re going to keep everyone more than 6 feet away!

    1. True that 🤔. Guess it would work (on humans at least).
