ISWG: 7th August 2019

It’s ISWG day! Every month the ISWG asks a question for writers and this time it’s “Has your writing ever taken you by surprise? For example, a positive and belated response to a submission you’d forgotten about or an ending you never saw coming?

My answer? Well, I started writing non-fiction for college magazines. My first articles for the Statistics and Zoology magazines were too technical but (*surprise*) actually gave me an editorial internship at a Youth Magazine.

In terms of stories, I’ve actually been surprised to get responses on some posts that many found them relatable.

August Reading:

Just finished ‘Made in Japan’ by Akio Morita. It’s an autobiography of one of the founders of Sony, a popular Japanese company. The book also talks about the differences in American and Japanese culture, economic systems, trade laws, markets and more.

Have started ‘Tell Tale’ by Jeffrey Archer. It’s a book of short stories.

Last Month:

Well, I spent the last month chilling, daydreaming, reading and trying to make comics (The last one didn’t exactly work out, at least the drawing part).

  1. I spent a week in Japan for business many years ago. One day I spent a morning with Japanese counterparts talking about how we did our jobs. That was a pretty amazing way to learn about cultural differences.
