Lush, Green & Beautiful

Green has always stood for nature. Just the word enables me to picture a place with lush green grass, huge leafy trees and singing birds. This is what makes the colour so full of freshness.

However, according to colour psychology, it also has many more meanings:

Green is said to have a calming effect on people.

This is because among all the colours (Think of a rainbow), green happens to be in the centre which requires little strain for it to hit the eye. It denotes a sense of balance.

Green is also said to denote jealousy.

This may remind you of the phrase “Green with envy.” It is said that the ancient Greeks used to substitute the words sickness or jealousy with green. This is because, they were of the opinion that when the body is under stress, it tends to produce more bile which gives the skin a yellowish green tint. Some sources credit Shakespeare with making the statement popular through the line “Beware, my lord, of jealousy; it is the green-eyed monster which doth mock the meat it feeds on.”

What do you feel when you think/ see green? Share in the comments.

  1. Green is a fun color. It’s fun and vibrant. Seems like “go” and action. Green in book covers usually means nature or health will play a vital role in the story.

  2. Green for me is the symbol of Growth. Mother nature wears a green attire during Monsoon season in India. And I fall in love with it, head over hills!
Green as a colour of envy… did not know that. Thanks for sharing

  4. Well I think there are some wonderful shades of green, and green does make me think of nature too. However, I think there are shades that certainly have a more sickly hue to them. I also think there are some nice shades of green that would represent jealousy well. Lovely post.
